Celebrating World Hepatitis Day in the Eastern Mediterranean

World Hepatitis Alliance (WHA) members in the WHO EMRO region were able to effectively raise awareness online and in the media. Many members held webinars and other virtual events to commemorate the day.

The Health Foundation, Pakistan 

The Health Foundation (THF) shared WHD visuals on its social media pages as well as sharing this this WHD message: 

“On the occasion of World Hepatitis Day, THF reaffirmed its pledge to continue efforts of eliminating hepatitis from Pakistan. Hepatitis is a serious health issue confronting our country, with over 19 million people affected and 400,000 new cases each year. Close to 100 people lose their lives daily due to hepatitis related problems. 

“Please join hands with THF in its efforts to combat this deadly, yet preventable and curable disease. Please reach out to us to see how you can support our cause and make a difference in the lives of many living in poverty devoid of basic health facilities.” 

The Asian Institute of Medical Sciences, Pakistan 

The Asian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) used their digital platforms to raise awareness on hepatitis and translated the WHD global theme into their local language to use WHD messages on social media. 

AIMS’ Dr Sadik Memon shared a WHD public awareness video on hepatitis, broadcast via AIMS’ social media channels. Watch it here. 

Hepatitis Free Pakistan, Pakistan 

A seminar on hepatitis awareness and a walk was organized at DHQ Hospital Mandi Bahauddin, Pakistan. Hepatitis Free Pakistan translated WHD assets into Urdu and created a banner for the day to help spread hepatitis awareness locally.
